Over the past 18 or so months, in 2 different elementary schools in 2 different countries, my job has consisted of A LOT of recess duty. Here is my photo essay/homage. ❂

Thank you for sharing your photographs. Each photograph was like a story with no words. My favorite one is with the tether ball and the child walking in the air. You caught slices of life with your photographs.

I love this photo essay. I live in California so I was surprised to see kids out in the snow. I grew up in Illinois but don’t remember going out for recess in the winter but I guess we must have. It’s a great idea, though I feel sorry for you teachers having to help all those kids into their winter wrappings!

In France, they were super serious about their recess, and we went out three times a day no matter the weather!! There was a part of the school yard that was covered, so we would bring the kids outside even in the rain. It was so fun to be able to go out in the snow. A few times the teachers would ask me to end my English lessons 5 or 10 minutes early to allow the kids enough time to get their coats and boots on!
Here in Virginia there seem to be more practical rules… we’ll have indoor recess (hence the cards and bananagrams) for rain, snow, even just for cold weather. I think it’s kind of a shame…not only for the kids, but for the teachers who have extra wiggly kids for the rest of the day!!!
I might have to return to this topic for another slice this month 🙂
